In Exercise 1, we performed a basic UV unwrap using 3ds Max 2013.

Tap M to open the material editor.

Make sure that the sphere in your scene is selected, then click the first material in the samples pane, and click Assign Material to Selection; you should see the sphere turn a matte gray.
